How to read the evidence without stretching it
A food-composition table reports averages from samples; it does not guarantee the value of every egg. An intervention study observes a defined group, for a defined period, within a particular meal or diet. That is not enough to turn one food into a treatment. Funding and conflicts of interest should always be checked in the full paper. Training studies also depend on programme quality, adherence and baseline diet. A difference found in resistance-trained young men cannot be converted into a performance promise for a runner, a recreational walker or someone returning to activity after illness. Appropriate comparison requires the same outcome and a similar population. Longer trials should confirm whether an observed change persists, whether it is practically meaningful, and whether it comes with any unwanted effect. Until then, the result remains only one part of a larger evolving evidence base.
